This is a Forest Green Roberts R500 Radio with Serial Number - 28009.

The dimensions are 11" x 7.1/4" x 4.1/2" (28 x 18 x 10 cm)

The Roberts R500 is a 3 waveband 7 transistor portable receiver introduced in September 1963 at £18. 10s. 6d. including purchase tax.

The Roberts R500 was a lot more expensive than the Roberts R200 which had a price of  £14. 6s. 0d at that time.

The Roberts R500 has a very handsome 'Rexine' covered wooden case feetted with a leather handle. It covers the Long and Medium Wavebands plus Short waves from 50m to 16m (6MHz to 18.75MHz).

An internal ferrite rod aerial is used for long & medium waves. There is a brass telescopic aerial for the Short waves. A socket is fitted for an external or car aerial and there is an output socket for feeding a tape recorder.

It stands on the usual Roberts ball bearing turntable base.

This Roberts R500 radio is just stunning. It has all of its original components and is all in excellent cosmetic condition.

The Forest Green 'Rexine' covered cabinet is in excellent condition. It is with bright brass trim and very clean undented grille.

The original gold coulored aerial is intact and straight and extends fully.

The correct control knobs are in perfect condition nicely polished and shiny.

The Roberts badge and carry strap are complete too.

This is a 50 years old radio and is normal to have some age related marks.

The Roberts R500 is more rare than the R200 and R300s and it is even more rare to find a fine example like this one.

This classic vintage Roberts radio is working very well on all wavebands with great sound performance from its large high quality 'Rola' loudspeaker.
