The R707- the best radio Roberts ever made and it was their Flagship Portable Radio of the 1960/70's.
DIMENSIONS (L/H/W) : 13 x7.5 x4" / 32 x20 x11cm
Introduced in 1969 at £34.50 including purchase tax and increasing to nearly £60 in the 1970's which is equal to £800 today.
It is a 4 waveband radio (MW/LW/SW/FM) covering the Long, Medium and Short (41-49 m) wavebands plus VHF/FM. It employs 12 Transistors + 6 Diodes with a Mullard LP1179 VHF Module and a Mullard LP1164 I.F Module.
Switchable AFC provides accurate tuning and good station locking on FM.
This radio has sockets for earphone, tape recorder and car aerial.
There is a 36" swivel base telescopic aerial for FM and Short wave reception and a Large 8.5" internal ferrite rod for Medium & Long waves.
Separate bass & treble controls give excellent sound from the Large elliptical 'Rola' speaker.
The wooden case is finished in black leathercloth with solid teak ends.
It has a strong leather stitched carry strap. A large hinged door gives access to the battery compartment.
The radio stands on the usual Roberts turntable base for the best reception.
The example for sale is the battery + external power supply version.
It is complete and original, all in near mint cosmetic condition.
The leathercloth covered cabinet is in beautiful condition without any flaws, scuffs or damage as are the teak wooden ends. The tuning dial is clean & bright, the original knobs and push buttons are excellent. The carry strap is intact. The swivel base aerial is original, complete and extends in full perfectly.
It is remarkable and will be a great addition to any radio collection.
This radio is also suitable for everyday use - high build quality and amazing sound performance.
It is in outstanding cosmetic condition externally and internally because it has always been protected by its original Roberts carry bag with adjustable shoulder strap all in perfect condition - a very rare example for a radio of this age.
I have provided lots of clear close up photos. Please enlarge them in order to see the cosmetic condition in detail.
The R707 requires two 6 Volt Lantern type 996 batteries (not supplied - the picture with the 2 batteries is only for demonstration). They are available at Wilkinson for £3 only) or a 12 Volt external Power Supply. (Not supplied)
