The Sovereign III RP72 was introduced in 1973 for the price of £73.50 (which is equal to todays value of £925 !!! )
The RP72-MB Sovereign III is an improved version of the RP72 Sovereign III with the addition of a built-in mains power supply unit.
It covers the Long, Medium and VHF/FM wavebands.
It is an 18 transistor plus 7 diode radio. A separate audio module gives an output of 1.5W at a high level of audio quality from a large elliptical loudspeaker.
There are also separate variable bass and treble controls.
The sensitivity and audio quality is Fantastic!
It is a dual circuit radio with separate circuits for AM and FM and switchable AFC on FM.
Normal reception is from an internal ferrite rod for AM and there is a 46" telescopic aerial for FM.
There are also separate sockets for external AM and FM aerials. There is a 5 pin DIN socket for tape recording and a personal earphone socket.
It has adjustable colour station markers.
It comes complete with a copy of the Hacker Technical Data.
The radio is housed in a very strong wooden cabinet with black leathercloth trim. It has a strong all metal carry handle and stands on a ball bearing turntable base for best reception.
This is a 45 years old radio but is in excellent cosmetic condition: the tuning dial is clear with all printing present. The charcoal black leathercloth (rexine) covered cabinet and the wooden side panels are all good. The battery box holder which often missing is present and is complete and undamaged with no signs from leaking batteries.
The swivel base aerial is complete and operates perfectly- extends and retracts in full.
As this is a more than 45 years old used radio some age related marks is normal to be expected.
This Hacker Sov. 3 Radio is absolutely original and complete in every respect!
