The Sovereign III RP72 was introduced in 1973 for the price of £73.50 (which is equal to today's value of £890 !! )
It covers the Long, Medium and VHF/FM wavebands.
It is an 18 transistor plus 7 diode radio. A separate audio module gives an output of 1.5W at a high level of audio quality from a large elliptical loudspeaker.
There are also separate variable bass and treble controls.
The sensitivity and audio quality are excellent.
It is a dual circuit radio with separate circuits for AM and FM and switchable AFC on FM.
Normal reception is from an internal ferrite rod for AM and there is a 46" telescopic aerial for FM.
There are also separate sockets for external AM and FM aerials. There is a 5 pin DIN socket for tape recording and a personal earphone socket.
It has adjustable colour station markers.
The radio is housed in a very strong wooden cabinet with black leathercloth trim. It has a strong all metal carry handle and stands on a ball bearing turntable base for best reception.
This 45 years old radio is in excellent cosmetic condition: the tuning dial is clear with all printing intact, with no wear marks around the control knobs. The charcoal black leathercloth (rexine) covered cabinet and wooden side panels are free of any damage or scratches. The battery box holder which often missing is present and is complete and undamaged with no signs from leaking batteries.
The original swivel base aerial is complete and operates perfectly- extends and retracts in full. This Hacker Sov.III Radio is all original.
As this is more than 45 years old used radio some age related marks and are to be expected.
I have provided lots of clear close up photos of the radio which you can enlarge in order to see and assess the cosmetic condition in detail.
This Hacker radio works excellently on all wavebands and is one of the Best Sounding radios ever.
