1970's Hacker Sovereign RP18
3 Waveband Portable Transistor Radio
13" x 9" x 5"
The RP18 Sovereign is a Long, Medium and VHF/FM transistor radio from the early 1970's made in Maidenhead UK and is one of the best Hacker radios.
It is a 15 transistor plus 7 diode radio with switchable quiet tuning between stations on the FM band. A separate audio module gives an output of 1.5W at a high level of audio quality from a large 8" X 5" eliptical loudspeaker. There are also separate variable bass and treble controls. It is a dual circuit radio with separate tuners and IF strips for AM and FM. It has an External aerial socket for car use. Normal reception is from an internal ferrite rod for AM and there is a 38" telescopic aerial for FM. There is an auxiliary output socket for tape recording, an amplifier input socket for gram pick-up and a personal earphone socket. There are four adjustable station markers.
The radio is housed in a very strong wooden cabinet covered in black leathercloth. It has a strong metal carry handle and stands on a ball bearing turntable base.
It has been fully checked, cleaned and serviced and is in very fine condition except a few marks and scratches on the rare panel.
This Hacker Sovereign is all complete and original and works very well on all wavebands.
It is a great radio for any vintage radio collectors as it is really very rare to find a good example like this one.
I have provided lots of clear close up photos of the radio in order to see the cosmetic condition in detail.
It works from 2 PP9 batteries (not supplied)
